Utility Art Boxes

Since its inception, the Utility Art Box Program has involved over 100 volunteer artists in painting over 100 utility boxes in Uptown. The Partnership gains the approval of the utilities that own the boxes, solicits and reviews artists’ designs, and provides the painting supplies. The finished art works enliven the Uptown landscape. Partnership staff cleaned and refurbished the boxes in December 2007.

To report a damaged utility art box please email us with the location of the box, and please be sure to note if there is offensive or vulgar graffiti.

Parking Card Sales

During this past fiscal year, Uptown Partnership has sold over $200,000 worth of parking meter cards and card reloading time to the public. The City of San Diego “owns” the meter card program, and the Partnership is one of its major distributors.

To promote the availability of parking meter cards in Uptown, the Partnership collaborated with the City of San Diego to start the Reseller Incentive Program. This program provides benefits for private businesses to sell the cards on behalf of the City. The Partnership currently has three resellers in Uptown:Hillcrest Ace Hardware, Hillcrest Business Improvement Association, and the Mission Hills Mail Station.
