Bankers Hill Streetscape Design Guidelines
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
As Bankers Hill-Park West experiences redevelopment the neighborhood has a unique opportunity to revitalize its already distinguished image. Streetscape Design Guidelines will help create a consistent "sense of place" as new landscaping, lighting, street furnishings, identity signage, and pedestrian-friendly improvements are added.
PROJECT GOALS
- Produce a set of guidelines that will guide new and existing development in Bankers Hill- Park West.
PROJECT INFORMATION
The process of developing guidelines started in 2007 but the neighborhood was unable to complete funding. In 2008, Uptown Partnership put together a funding package that includes parking meter revenues, pro bono contributions by consultants Glen Schmidt of the Schmidt Design Group and Brad Lewis of Helix Environmental Planning, and a grant from the County of San Diego through Supervisor Ron Roberts.
The consultants held public workshops to gather input from the community and a project advisory committee comprised of neighborhood representatives helped shape the designs selected in the final report.
Traffic calming enhancements to improve vehicle and pedestrian movement will be consistent with the guidelines produced from this project.
The consultants are now in the process of completing the finalized guidelines. You can see the final presentation made to the community on August 26, 2009 below.
